The Lean Dog Sleeps

In the void between the blazing log fire and the back of the old leather sofa lays the domain of the Lean Mean Lurching Machine – otherwise known as Jess. She is about 15 years old and I have enjoyed her company and companionship for the last 14 years 8 months. She was a ‘rescue’ dog (puppy) from the RSPCA just after Christmas all those years ago. She is a Lurcher X German Shepherd of wonderful temperament and disposition. She says I’ve got to say that ……or else!

She has me well trained. She takes me for limited exercise four times a day and for that she demands, quite vociferously, her reward – a small bone shaped, gravy flavoured biscuit. (she doesn’t know I break each biscuit in half in an effort to preserve her sylph-like figure). Or maybe she just pretends she doesn’t know to keep me in line!

She can only walk short distances at any one time now as, four years ago, she had a synthetic cruciate ligament implanted in her right hind leg. That was a successful procedure, but in the process of recovery her left hind knee joint, which bore the brunt of her weight for about three months, became slightly damaged and is now severely arthritic. But she seems happy and has a good quality of life.

I’d like to say a big HELLO!!! to all the people who visited the blog today (if they come back again, obviously).

I’m assuming that Mandy’s email prompted the huge surge on the network that I’ve noticed in todays stats.

If you do pop back feel free to say “hello” in this post and any ideas about what you would like to see in a geocaching blog will be gratefully received .

The blog is undergoing a piecemeal rennovation, changing it from what was to be a TB race blog to something…eh…different.

Just now it’s turning into a bit of a mini forum so please join in.

Still in Belgium – and Worse!!!

Well folks no movement to report for the past few weeks. “Maisie” is still stuck near Antwerp in a cache which I am told is part of a 16 part multi. Not being a geocaching buff I haven’t looked into the exact ramifications of this…but I believe it’s not good. Looks like time to twiddle thumbs, make another cup of tea and generally amuse ourselves until something happens.

I the meantime…

From the South of France to just outside Antwerp in Belgium, not a bad move for Maisie the Travel Bug. My thanks to de malstjes, the geocachers who whisked the Fatdog from Montpellier many hundreds of miles northwards to their own cache in Belgium.

Where next for FD?

I’d love to be able to tell you about the surroundings in which the TB has been placed but the words have too many consonants and not enough vowels. It’s a difficult language to pick up.

Looks like we could be onto a winner here!

French geocacher TTVTT picked up “Maisie” from a cache (Chinaillon – La Cascade Mysterieuse) in the Alps quite near the Swiss border. Checking out TTVTT’s profile it appears Mdm/Ms comes from Herault in the SW of France. Even a journey back home would add a few hundred miles!

Better than that it would appear TTVTT…is a HILLWALKER!!!! (photos on profile)

Just realised – Magpie 15 has also dropped off “The Essex Girl” in the same cache…Aaarghh!

Thinking of deducting points from Magpie 15 in the “Carrot and Stick” competition. Damn didn’t specify NOT taking another bug at the same time in my non-existent rules – drat!

Current Position of The Fatdog – The Alps!

Thanks to the marvellous efforts of Magpie 15 “Maisie” has now made it to the Alps to the east of Annecy! Beautiful part of the world – been there a couple of times. Went to see the Tour de France one year as it passed through Faverges just off the south end of Lake Annecy and spent a fantastic couple of nights at the village of Doussard during their Bastille Day celebrations – happy times.

Maisie currently lies in the cache – Chinaillon: La Cascade Mysterieuse.
